How do turntable mats influence sound? The interaction between the record and the surface can be tracked very easily by the sensitivity of a cartridge. Felt mats provide contact between records and platter with the disadvantage of static. That means felt mats often collect a lot of dust which can be then transferred to the record. Also the damping ability is limited which can be a problem with metal platters. Thick rubber mats over damp the record and have an isolation effect leaving the static on the record and hearable noise clicks as a result. Leather and Cork are two different but very interesting options to upgrade sound quality. Resonances are damped more effectively than felt, they keep dust away and they have also enough contact to avoid static. What is better depends on taste and the actual platter design. Turntable mats can make vinyl sound clearer with greater separation and detail. Cork is known to dampen and absorb unwanted vibration, Hudson Hi-Fi's CoRkErY cork composite mat works remarkably on turntables, particularly on steel and lightweight turntable platters, due to its highly non-resonant properties. Diameter: 11.375" just slightly smaller than a standard LP. Thickness: 1/8". CoRkErY Recessed Turntable Platter Mat | Audiophile Anti-Static Slipmat | 1/8" Recessed Soft and Durable Material: Gentle on your treasured vinyl records Keeps dust away: Corkery doesn't attract dust and is easy to clean. Dust particles can be brushed off easily, preventing them from building up on your vinyl records. Dust and debris collect in the groves of vinyl records and even a little dust or static electricity can heavily impact sound quality. Reduces Static Load: When records are played, static electricity is created which causes crackling and static noise, as well as attracting dust. The slip mats can be placed directly on the platter, with the inherent properties of cork and rubber static loads can be reduced. *Please note platter mats are not intended to fix or eliminate static issues. While a platter mat can reduce static, please use products like the "Milty Pro Zerostat 3 anti-static gun" to completely remove static. Hudson Hi-Fi Platter Mat Upgrades The slipmat is the single point of contact between your vinyl record and the turntable platter. The right slipmat is an effective way to enhance your listening experience, removing crackles, pops, clicks and bumps. Cork and Rubber platter mats reduce friction and absorb vibrational energy, enabling your stylus to make improved contact with the grooves on vinyl records. Slipmats are also another great way of reducing the static charge from your record collection. Better grip than standard felt mats. Works with most turntables. *Please note platter mats are not intended to fix or eliminate static issues. While a platter mat can reduce static, please use products like the "Milty Pro Zerostat 3 anti-static gun" to completely remove static. Features Improved grip on your vinyl record. Improved drive through the needle. Improved sound quality from your Hi-Fi set up. Provides dampening of resonances from metal turntable platters. Avoids static load, Reduction in static build up.
